“Lies X 3″ sounds like a classic Junior Boys tune with hooky synth melodies, danceable beats, and soulful vocals, but there’s just one thing — it’s not a Junior Boys track. In fact, it’s the ever-unpredictable Tom Shimura, better known to hip-hop heads the world over as Lyrics Born. On his latest album, As U Were — which is due out on October 26th — LB is back bigger and better than ever, and “Lies X 3″ is just the start of what he’s got in store.

Lyrics Born has been around the game long enough to have established some long-term relationships with his underground hip-hop peers, and there are plenty of them joining him on As U Were. Not only do Gift of Gab and Joyo Velarde turn up, even old cohort Lateef is on hand for this outing. And that’s not even mentioning the newer crop of artists contributing their talents to the project, like Sam Sparro, Jake One, and Francis and the Lights. But this album marks a different kind of partnership for Lyrics Born as well — for its release, he has teamed up with Decon Records, though the artist himself keeps all the rights to his music. Talking about the upcoming release, Decon main man Peter Bittenbender said, “I have been a fan of Lyrics Born since the days of Latyrx and we are thrilled to add him to our diverse roster here…We look forward to continue pushing those boundaries with what we hope will be the first of many collaborations.”
